Google has introduced an important update for Gmail users, offering greater flexibility and control over their account information.
Google account holders can now change their primary ‘@gmail.com’ email address linked to their existing account, allowing users to update their email identity without creating a new account.
One of the key highlights of this feature is that even after changing the account address, all user data will remain fully secure, as the tech giant has begun a gradual rollout of the feature to ensure data protection.
According to Google, when a user switches to a new Gmail ID, all stored data, including photos, messages, and emails, will remain completely unaffected and intact.
In addition, users will be able to sign in to Google services such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Drive using either their old or new email address, providing added convenience and flexibility.
Google stated that once a new Gmail address is created, users will not be allowed to create another new address for the next 12 months, although the old address can be reused at any time.
Despite assurances regarding data safety, Google has advised users to back up their information before starting the change, as some app settings may be reset during the process.
Furthermore, Google explained that users who want to check whether the feature is enabled for their account can do so by visiting the ‘personal information’ section in the settings.
