Life in the country’s upper regions has been severely disrupted following rainfall and heavy snowfall, causing major difficulties in transportation, electricity supply, and access to necessities in several areas.
In Gilgit-Baltistan’s Astore district, multiple link roads remain closed due to heavy snowfall, while a sick resident of a village died before reaching the hospital because of blocked routes. Locals said the road closures have made access to medical facilities extremely difficult.
Meanwhile, daily life has also been paralyzed in the upper and Pak-Afghan border areas of Balochistan, including Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and Ziarat, where severe cold and snowfall have worsened conditions for residents.
Due to intense snowfall, land routes have been cut off in many areas, leaving residents of dozens of villages, including Toba Achakzai and Toba Kakari, confined to their homes. Road blockages have led to shortages of food and fuel. According to control room officials, helicopters remain the only viable option for delivering relief in some regions.
In Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, snowfall has stopped, but the main highway remains closed up to Taobat due to a landslide, while electricity supply has been suspended in 13 villages of Nakyal, adding to public hardship.
In the upper areas of Swat, work is underway to restore blocked roads, and authorities say efforts are being made to normalize the situation as soon as possible.
