The growing trend of illegal immigration by Indian nationals has emerged as a serious challenge to global security, raising concerns at the international level. Various reports indicate that this phenomenon is having adverse implications not only regionally but also for global safety and stability.
According to data released by US Customs and Border Protection, 23,830 Indian nationals were arrested in 2025 while attempting to cross borders illegally. In 2024, US authorities detained 85,119 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the issue.
Foreign media reports suggest that flawed policies under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have forced thousands of Indian citizens to abandon legal pathways and resort to illegal means to migrate abroad, contributing significantly to the rise in unlawful immigration.
An Indian publication reported that most of the arrested Indian nationals were attempting to reach the United States through illegal routes in pursuit of a brighter future, a decision that ultimately exposed them to legal troubles and severe risks.
Global security agencies have also described illegal immigration by Indian nationals, along with human smuggling, use of fake degrees, and involvement in organized crime, as a threat to international security, emphasizing the need for serious and coordinated global action to address the issue.
