From January 1, 2026, consumers are expected to receive substantial relief at petrol pumps, as authorities have prepared a plan for a major reduction in petroleum product prices for the next fifteen days following a sharp decline in international crude oil prices.
According to official sources, the recent significant drop in global crude oil prices is likely to be passed on to the domestic market, under which the price of petrol is expected to decrease by up to Rs10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel may see a reduction of up to Rs8.59 per litre.
Sources said that under the proposed adjustments, kerosene oil is expected to become cheaper by Rs8.92 per litre, while the price of light diesel oil may also be reduced by Rs6.62 per litre, easing fuel-related costs across various sectors.
If the proposal is approved, the price of petrol will decline from the current Rs263.45 per litre to approximately Rs252.85 per litre, while high-speed diesel is expected to fall from Rs265.65 to around Rs257.06 per litre.
Similarly, the price of kerosene oil is projected to drop from the existing Rs180.54 per litre to nearly Rs171.62 per litre, offering direct financial relief to consumers.
