Ahsan Iqbal said The Supreme Court has decided the election case within 90 days in a “quick” decision. He further said that the current situation does not allow for such early elections.
Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan are quite worried about the Supreme Court’s decision regarding holding elections in Punjab and KPK within their 90-day analysis. He said that in view of the reservations of Sindh and Balochistan, it was agreed at the meetings of civilian and military high commands that the national and provincial assemblies’ elections should not be held separately, but at the same time.
The Minister for Planning and Development said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would make the final decision regarding the conduct of elections. Ahsan Iqbal further said that the Supreme Court has taken this decision in a “quick” manner because the current situation does not allow for early elections.
He said that if the provincial assembly elections were held in Punjab now, the impact of the new provincial government would be felt on the national assembly elections. The federal minister said that the elections in Punjab were held under the previous census, while the new census would be completed in the next four months, and the general elections in the country would be held according to the new census.
