Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider has issued an important statement regarding the recent earthquake tremors felt in Karachi since yesterday, shedding light on their causes.
According to the Chief Meteorologist, four tremors have been recorded so far in Malir, Qaidabad, and nearby areas since last evening. Detailed reports of some tremors are still awaited; however, the tremor felt at 5:33 PM was recorded at a magnitude of 3.6 and a depth of 10 kilometers.
He added that the epicenter of this quake was near Qaidabad. Another tremor was recorded at 1:06 AM with a magnitude of 3.2 and a depth of 12 kilometers, near Gadap Town.
Ameer Haider explained that these earthquakes are occurring in the Landhi fault region. These are minor tremors, and this fault line has no history of major earthquakes. Another fault line near Karachi is located close to Thana Bula Khan, and both are considered active fault lines.
He further stated that such low-intensity tremors are generally reported these days, especially near the main boundary line close to the Kirthar range. It may take a few days for these fault lines to stabilize, and the possibility of more tremors in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
