Ireland’s fast bowler Liam McCarthy registered an unwanted record in the third T20 International against the West Indies, conceding 81 runs in his four-over spell without taking a single wicket.
The match, played at Bready Cricket Club in Northern Ireland, saw McCarthy deliver a disappointing performance. He was hit for 11 fours and 5 sixes, with his final over proving the most expensive as it yielded 24 runs. In his opening over, debutant Keacy Carty and Shimron Hetmyer scored 18 runs off his bowling.
This outing is now the second most expensive spell in T20 International cricket history. The record for the most runs conceded in a T20I remains with Gambia’s Musa Jorbateh, who gave away 93 runs against Zimbabwe in 2024.
Among Test-playing nations, the previous record was held by Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha, who conceded 75 runs against Australia in 2019.
