Washington: US President Donald Trump has welcomed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, congratulating the leadership of all three countries on what he described as a major and important step.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he was very pleased to see that Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan had finally signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.
The US president said the agreement demonstrated that the Middle East was coming together and that countries in the region would finally be able to defend themselves more effectively.
Trump congratulated the leadership of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, describing the agreement as a major, bold and important first step.
The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan was signed in Mecca on August 7.
Under the agreement, an attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has also indicated the possibility of expanding the agreement in the future, saying the pact is not limited to the three countries when it comes to peace and security.
