Karachi: Pakistan Petroleum Limited has announced a significant high quality gas discovery near the coastal region of Sujawal district in Sindh, opening new prospects for hydrocarbon exploration in the area.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), the discovery was made at the Dolphin exploratory well in the company’s operated Sirani Block in Sujawal district.
PPL said this marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Jurassic Chiltan Formation in the Lower Indus Basin, making it an important development for oil and gas exploration in the region.
According to the company, the discovery has established the presence of an active petroleum system and created the potential for further hydrocarbon discoveries in the area.
PPL said the discovery has also opened a new exploration frontier covering the onshore marshy region and its potential extension into shallow offshore areas.
The development could pave the way for further exploration and drilling activities to assess the hydrocarbon potential of coastal and shallow offshore areas.
