A concerning health situation has emerged in Taunsa, Punjab, where a total of 334 individuals have been diagnosed with AIDS, including 331 children under the age of 12.
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir confirmed the development during a press conference, stating that ongoing AIDS screening is being conducted at the THQ Hospital in Taunsa, and more than 50,000 suspected individuals have been screened so far to control the spread of the disease.
He said that immediate medical care has been provided to all affected individuals, especially children, and that auto-lock syringes are now being used as a preventive measure to curb further transmission.
The minister added that there is no involvement of untrained personnel in government hospitals and that only standard procedures are followed, using smaller-capacity syringes, while any negligence by staff will lead to strict accountability.
Khawaja Imran Nazir emphasized that such sensitive matters should not be politicized and must be addressed with seriousness and responsibility.
He further stated that 32 cases of monkeypox have also been reported in Punjab, although no deaths have been recorded so far.
