Lahore: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared the year 2025 as a year dedicated to improving the education sector, announcing that the government has decided to provide laptops not only to students of public institutions but also to thousands of students enrolled in private educational institutions.
Speaking about the performance of the education department in 2025, the provincial education minister said that just like the previous year, 2025 will remain focused on practical measures aimed at strengthening the education system and sustaining the reform process across the province.
Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that significant steps were taken to improve transparency and efficiency in the education sector, including the elimination of 2 million ghost enrollments and the rationalization of 26,000 teachers, which helped address long-standing teacher shortages. He added that historic work was carried out on syllabus reforms, examination reforms were introduced, and education boards were shifted to an e-marking system.
He further said that the Punjab government placed special emphasis on early childhood education, under which ECE rooms were established in 10,000 schools, while around 1.1 million students are benefiting daily from a nutrition program aimed at improving health and learning outcomes.
According to the education minister, 268 schools across the province were upgraded, decisions were issued in 37 harassment cases involving teachers, and a decision was taken to provide 10,000 laptops to students of private educational institutions to promote digital learning.
The provincial minister also said that merit-based appointments of principals were completed in 450 colleges, while the process of appointing vice chancellors in 29 universities has also been finalized.
