Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has abolished the provincial Food Department and approved the establishment of a new department aimed at managing essential commodities, controlling prices, and protecting consumers.
According to details, the Chief Minister has formally approved the creation of the Commodity Management Department, which will be empowered to regulate prices of essential goods and take action against hoarding across the province. The move is intended to ensure market stability and provide relief to the public.
Officials said that the Balochistan Food Authority will now operate under the Commodity Management Department to ensure better coordination in matters related to food quality, pricing, and availability. The establishment of the new department is expected to save the provincial government millions of rupees in administrative expenses.
It was further disclosed that a total of 974 posts will be created within the Commodity Management Department, while the Directorate of Commodity Management will comprise 625 positions to ensure efficient administration.
