Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that registered motorbike owners can apply online for a Rs2,000 fuel subsidy through the Excise Department’s website, with the process now officially underway.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he said that the subsidy will only be provided to registered motorbike owners, and users can verify their registration details through the Excise and Taxation Department’s website.
Murad Ali Shah stated that the fee for transferring ownership of motorbikes has been waived, while Excise offices will remain open from morning until night, including weekends, to facilitate the process.
He added that the subsidy amount will be transferred directly into the applicant’s bank account through an automated system, provided that both the motorbike and the bank account are registered under the applicant’s name.
According to the Chief Minister, there are 6.7 million registered motorbikes in Sindh, and the Rs2,000 subsidy will be disbursed in April. However, individuals owning more than one motorbike will receive only one subsidy.
He further explained that applicants must enter their CNIC number and motorbike registration number on the website, after which a verification code will be sent to their mobile phones. Upon entering the code, they will be required to provide their bank account details for direct transfer of funds.
Responding to concerns about fare increases by transporters, Murad Ali Shah said that transporters have assured the government that fares will not be raised, adding that overcharging will be treated as a crime and action will be taken.
He emphasized that instead of providing funds to transporters, the government is delivering relief directly to the public, ensuring that subsidies reach those who need them the most.
