Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle of the subcontinent has passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai, leaving the music world in deep sorrow, with fans and artists alike mourning the loss of an iconic voice.
Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed her passing and stated that her last rites will be performed in Mumbai at 4 PM tomorrow, with the family indicating that the مراسم will be held simply and privately.
Asha Bhosle had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday, where she was undergoing treatment for severe fatigue and a chest infection, but her condition did not improve and she passed away during treatment.
Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, had earlier shared on social media that her grandmother’s health was deteriorating, and the family had requested fans to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
Born on September 8, 1933, in Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle belonged to the renowned Mangeshkar family of music, and she was the younger sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, both of whom had a profound influence on the music of the subcontinent.
Throughout her long and successful career, Asha Bhosle recorded more than 12,000 songs, and her name was also included in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the most recorded artists in the world, reflecting her extraordinary contribution to music.
This versatile singer showcased her talent across various genres, including ghazals, pop, and classical music, consistently captivating audiences with her unique voice and style, which earned her global recognition.
In the 1990s, her collaborations with AR Rahman once again highlighted the timeless appeal of her voice, proving that her artistry resonated equally with audiences across generations.
