Yemen’s Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, has claimed responsibility for attacking two Saudi oil tankers, alleging that the vessels violated a naval blockade imposed by the group.
In a statement, Ansar Allah said the tankers were targeted after breaching the group’s declared maritime blockade.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency reported that a Saudi-owned vessel came under attack while sailing in the Red Sea, causing a fire to break out in the front section of the ship. The crew was reported to be safe.
Earlier, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had reported a fire aboard a vessel approximately 70 nautical miles off the Saudi coastal town of Al Shaqiq.
According to the tanker captain, the fire was caused by a missile strike. No casualties or environmental damage have been reported.
A few days earlier, Ansar Allah announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, saying the move was in response to the blockade imposed on Yemen and the continued closure of Sana’a International Airport.
