US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has claimed that due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, China will also be unable to access Iranian oil, as the United States continues strict measures in the region.
Scott Bessent stated that the US is taking action to stop Chinese vessels carrying Iranian oil in the Strait of Hormuz to restrict Iran’s oil exports.
Meanwhile, the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has entered its second day, and US CENTCOM has claimed that no vessel has been able to reach Iranian ports following the blockade.
According to US CENTCOM, no ships have entered or exited Iranian ports during the past 48 hours, while nine vessels complied with US forces’ orders to turn back.
On the other hand, a US newspaper reported that the Pentagon is preparing to deploy thousands of additional troops to the Middle East in the coming days, which could further escalate regional tensions.
The report added that the Trump administration is attempting to pressure Iran into reaching an agreement, and if the ceasefire does not hold, the possibility of additional strikes or ground operations may be considered.
