The Sindh High Court has declared the order of a subordinate court to block an identity card as null and void, ruling that such an action is illegal and violates fundamental rights.
Justice Muhammad Hasan Akbar issued a written order after hearing a petition filed against the blocking of an identity card in a financial dispute case, stating that blocking a citizen’s identity card is not only unlawful but also a violation of basic human rights.
The court observed in its decision that no law provides any provision for blocking an identity card, and the Supreme Court has already clarified that there is no legal clause allowing such action.
The court further ruled that there is no legal basis under criminal procedure law to block an identity card, and therefore such orders cannot be sustained.
