The United Kingdom and Türkiye have signed a new security and defence partnership agreement on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
According to foreign media reports, the new agreement is being described as a major milestone in the strong strategic relationship between the two countries.
A joint statement issued by the UK and Türkiye said the partnership reflects their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two European NATO allies amid an evolving security environment in the Euro-Atlantic region.
Under the agreement, the two countries will establish new consultation mechanisms covering the political and military aspects of security and defence policy.
Key areas of cooperation include defence strategy, military cooperation, the defence industry and technology, cybersecurity and countering hybrid threats.
The joint statement said the United Kingdom and Türkiye play unique and indispensable roles in Euro-Atlantic security.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within NATO, increasing defence spending and providing the capabilities required by the alliance.
