National Institute of Health, Islamabad’s National Cancer Registry has released its first assessment report on cancer cases. According to the report, 53.61 percent of female and 46.7 percent of male cancer cases have been recorded.
According to the report, the most common cancers among men are oral, liver, colon, lung, and prostate cancer, while breast, ovarian, oral, cervical, and colorectal cancer are the most common among women.
The report highlights that blood cancer is common among children, and bone cancer is prevalent among young adults. The recorded data shows that 53.61% of cancer cases are women and 46.7% are men.
The report further reveals that Punjab has reported 45.13% of cancer cases, Sindh 26.83%, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 16.46%, and Balochistan 3.52%.
In Pakistan, oral cancer ranks second, followed by colon cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer in the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively. Every four individuals in Pakistan have three cases of oral cancer. The use of betel quid in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan is a major contributing factor to oral cancer.
According to the report, a total of 269,202 cancer cases were assessed from 2015 to 2019. It also suggests that significant dietary changes have led to an increase in cancer cases. Among the youth, there has been a rapid rise in colon cancer cases, and the primary cause of colon cancer is the excessive consumption of fast food.
