Gary Kirsten, head coach of the national ODI and T20 team, has resigned due to differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The board has accepted his resignation and appointed Jason Gillespie as the head coach for the Australia tour.
According to reports, Gary Kirsten stepped down from his position as the head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball team due to conflicts with PCB and selection committee member Aaqib Javed.
Sources indicate that relations between PCB and Gary Kirsten had been strained for some time, as he was unhappy with not being allowed to bring his team to the support staff.
Additionally, sources say Kirsten was displeased with Aaqib Javed’s interference and the selection committee’s involvement, as well as the recent team selection for the Australia tour.
After Gary Kirsten’s resignation, there was a possibility that Aaqib Javed, a member of the selection committee, would be appointed as the interim head coach for the Australia tour. However, the PCB has decided to assign this responsibility to Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the national Test team.
In a press release issued by the PCB, it was stated that Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation today, which has been accepted, and following his resignation, Jason Gillespie has been appointed as head coach for the Australia tour.
It is worth noting that due to disagreements with the PCB, Gary Kirsten’s arrival in Australia as head coach of the ODI and T20 teams was already uncertain. Kirsten had not formally informed the PCB about his plans to travel to Australia.
According to the schedule, Kirsten was supposed to arrive in Australia from South Africa today to join the Pakistan team. The first group of the Pakistan team, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah, departed for Australia last night, while the remaining squad members will leave for Australia today.
It should be noted that after the first Test against England, the Pakistan Cricket Board had withdrawn selection authority from both coaches and the captain.
Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the national Test team, had also expressed concerns about the decision to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah during the England series.
