The Senate Standing Committee on Finance has decided to summon the finance ministers of all four provinces over the issue of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
According to sources, a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance is likely to be called next week.
Sources stated that the federal government is unwilling to provide funds for departments transferred to the provinces. The KP government claims that the province’s population has increased following the merger of FATA districts. According to sources, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government argues that due to the population increase, its share in the NFC Award should be raised. The distribution of resources under the National Finance Commission every five years is a constitutional requirement.
It is worth noting that the current NFC Award was decided in 2009 and has been extended annually for the past 15 years. Under the NFC Award, 57.5 percent of divisible resources are allocated to the provinces and 42.5 percent to the federal government.
