Lahore: The Lahore High Court has declared the intra-court appeal against the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar inadmissible and dismissed the petition.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal announced the reserved verdict on the appeal. The court upheld the single bench’s decision and dismissed the intra-court appeal filed against Ishaq Dar’s appointment, terming it inadmissible. The verdict stated that the Constitution allows the Prime Minister to appoint any member of the assembly or senator to any position prima facie.
It is worth mentioning that Additional Attorney General Nasar Ahmad opposed the appeal. In the intra-court appeal filed by citizen Ashba Kamran, the Prime Minister and others were made respondents. The petitioner argued that the position of Deputy Prime Minister does not exist in the Constitution of Pakistan.
The petitioner further stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister against the Constitution. The Deputy Prime Minister is considered a deputy to the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Prime Minister is elected through votes by members of the National Assembly, and since Ishaq Dar is a senator, he cannot be appointed Deputy Prime Minister.
The petition stated that Ishaq Dar was unlawfully granted the privileges of Deputy Prime Minister. The court was requested to annul the appointment of Senator Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister and the decision of the single bench.
