The decomposed body of actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali was discovered a few days ago in a flat located in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6. Police and forensic experts have confirmed, based on evidence, that she died in October 2024.
The tragic discovery was made when police arrived to vacate the apartment under court orders. When the door remained unopened, they forcibly entered and found the severely decayed body of the actress. According to DIG South Syed Asad Raza, the police broke in due to no response from inside and found her body on the floor.
Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Syed, who conducted the post-mortem, stated that the body was too decomposed to immediately determine the cause of death. However, evidence suggests she died approximately nine months ago. Investigations of the actress’s phone records, social media activity, and neighbor statements led police to conclude she had not been alive since October 2024.
It was revealed that her last Facebook post was on September 11, 2024, and her final Instagram post was on September 30, 2024. Her last call and mobile activity were also recorded in October 2024.
Police officials reported that the flat’s rent was last paid in May 2024, and the electricity was disconnected by the end of October. Humaira likely passed away a few days before the disconnection. The flat’s water pipelines were dry and rusted, and there was no alternative electricity source or candles present.
Various samples collected from the scene have been sent to the lab for analysis. Police Surgeon Dr. Samia revisited the scene with senior officers but refrained from making any conclusive remarks.
The investigation revealed that there was only one other apartment on the same floor, which remained vacant during the period. This is why the presence of the body went unnoticed for so long. When the other apartment’s residents returned in February 2025, the foul odor had mostly faded.
The actress’s brother-in-law has now contacted authorities and agreed to receive the body. He stated that Humaira’s father went into severe depression upon hearing of her sudden death, which initially prevented the family from claiming the body. However, they are now ready to proceed.
Officials have stated that, as per legal requirements, the body will only be handed over to a blood relative. The brother-in-law has been instructed to bring a close blood relative with him so the burial process can be completed.
Earlier reports had suggested that due to strained relations with her parents, the family had refused to accept the body. However, the situation has now been clarified, and the last rites will be performed soon.
