Islamabad: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub, Sheikh Waqas Akram, and Zartaj Gul, ordering authorities to arrest and produce them before the court.
The directive came during the hearing of the Sangjani rally case, presided over by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. The court observed that the three leaders had not appeared in any of the proceedings so far.
During the hearing, Omar Ayub’s counsel submitted an application seeking exemption from personal appearance, which the court rejected. Judge Supra remarked that the absence of the accused was hindering the legal process and that their arrest was therefore necessary.
Representing the PTI leaders, lawyers Sardar Muhammad Masroor Khan, Amna Ali, and Murtaza Turi appeared before the court and presented their arguments. The court, however, directed authorities to ensure the presence of the accused at the next hearing and adjourned the case until October 20.
