India’s opposition party, Congress, has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of compromising the country’s sovereignty and exposing India to the interests of global powers due to what they call his “failed foreign policies.” Opposition leaders claim that Modi’s foreign policy has become weak, overly dependent, and submissive to international pressure.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that government decisions under Modi are made public internationally even before being announced domestically, exposing the fragility of his foreign strategy. He cited former US President Donald Trump’s revelation that Modi had assured Washington of halting Russian oil imports, a claim the Indian government has neither denied nor officially clarified.
Ramesh further stated, “Modi hides national policies, but Trump announces them,” recalling how Trump revealed the end of Operation Sindoor before any official Indian statement, calling it proof of Modi’s weakness.
Congress also accused Modi of avoiding facing Trump by skipping the Kuala Lumpur Summit and the Gaza Conference. According to the opposition, such moves indicate that Modi is bowing to external pressure instead of safeguarding India’s independent stance.
Opposition leaders labeled Modi as self-serving, accusing him of “putting the nation’s sovereignty at stake to prolong his rule.” They said his dream of becoming a “Vishwaguru” (teacher of the world) has been shattered on the global stage by his submissive behavior toward Trump.
Political analysts say that the Modi government’s approach has severely damaged India’s diplomatic image and exposed its “so-called sovereignty” to the world. Experts warn that if this trend continues, India could face further diplomatic challenges on the international stage.
