Quetta: It is winter in the capital of Balochistan, but the political temperature is hot, where the district administration has taken emergency measures across the city in view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan rallies.
According to a private TV report, the district administration has rejected permission for the rally, citing security concerns, and all the main roads of the city have been blocked with trucks and containers. On the other hand, due to this decision, citizens are facing severe difficulties, while mobile internet service has also been completely suspended in the city.
The district administration says that these measures are necessary to maintain law and order in the city. According to the administration, Section 144 has been imposed across the province for a month, under which any kind of public gathering or political rally is completely banned.
In this regard, a heavy contingent of police and law enforcement agencies has been deployed at the entrance and exit points of the city to deal with any untoward situation.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has declared the government’s decision unconstitutional and undemocratic and has announced to hold the rally at any cost. The party spokesperson said that the rally to be held at the hockey ground is being held to uphold the supremacy of the constitution, restore fundamental rights and protect political freedom. The government’s closure of roads and suspension of internet service is an attack on public freedoms, which is against democratic values.
This conflict has also increased the hardships of the citizens. Due to the complete closure of the main highways, intersections, and commercial centers of Quetta, the traffic jam situation has disturbed the people. Especially the students going to schools, colleges, and universities have been severely affected.
Meanwhile, security forces in the city have been placed on high alert and special surveillance is underway at sensitive locations in the city.
