An explosion near a school in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on Friday left dozens injured, prompting authorities to launch an immediate investigation. The cause of the blast has not yet been determined.
According to Jakarta’s police chief, Sisp Edi Soehiri, the explosion occurred near a local high school, after which rescue and medical teams reached the site without delay. He said that initial reports indicate around 54 people were injured, with some sustaining minor injuries and others suffering moderate wounds. Many victims have already been discharged from hospitals after receiving medical care.
Police cordoned off the area and began examining the site, while the Jakarta bomb disposal squad was also deployed to determine the cause of the explosion and ensure there is no further threat.
Authorities further stated that special support centers have been set up in two hospitals to assist the families of the injured and provide them with necessary information and services.
The police chief added that the incident is still under investigation, and since it occurred recently, no definitive conclusions can be drawn at this stage.
