ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated an extensive audit drive across multiple sectors in line with IMF requirements, bringing doctors, beauty parlors, and paint industry businesses in major cities under closer scrutiny.
According to sources, audit notices have already been issued to high-income doctors in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. In the first phase, the incomes of 250 prominent and high-earning doctors from these three cities will undergo detailed examination to determine discrepancies between actual earnings and reported tax payments.
FBR sources further revealed that high-end beauty parlors operating in metropolitan cities will now be brought into the tax net, while businesses involved in the sale of expensive cosmetics will also face audits. Reports of tax evasion in the paint industry have led to several private companies being added to the audit list.
To carry out this massive audit operation, FBR has engaged 600 private auditors, while an additional 200 auditors are expected to be hired in the coming days. Overall, FBR plans to appoint around 2,000 private auditors to thoroughly review tax records, income documentation and sector-specific compliance.
Officials noted that all private auditors will be legally bound to maintain strict confidentiality of taxpayers’ information, and a central monitoring cell is being established to ensure transparent and well-regulated audit proceedings.
