RAWALPINDI: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi released Aleema Khan, sister of former PTI chairman Imran Khan, on bail after placing her in brief judicial custody during proceedings related to the November 26 protest case.
The case was heard by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who took up proceedings against Aleema Khan and 11 other nominated individuals. At the outset, Aleema Khan requested that she be allowed to leave the court premises, as her counsel was engaged at the Supreme Court. However, Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that under Section 351 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused was deemed to be in judicial custody.
As Aleema Khan stepped outside the courtroom, female police officers immediately took her into custody and escorted her back inside. The court directed that she must not leave the court compound. Her lawyer, Faisal Malik, later arrived and appeared before the court.
Subsequently, Aleema Khan submitted two bail bonds worth Rs 1 million each, after which the court permitted her release. The hearing was adjourned until December 1 at the request of the defence counsel.
It is noteworthy that the ATC has already issued multiple arrest warrants for Aleema Khan in the same case related to the November 26 protest.
