A modern medical device called the Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer has been introduced at Civil Hospital Karachi to ensure rapid and accurate diagnosis of jaundice in newborn babies.
According to pediatric specialist Professor Iqbal Memon, the device allows doctors to measure bilirubin levels within seconds without drawing blood, making the diagnostic procedure significantly easier and faster.
Professor Memon further stated that previously, laboratory results required several hours, causing delays in treatment, whereas now instant readings will help provide timely medical care. He added that when jaundice levels rise, serious complications may occur, and in such cases, phototherapy is usually administered to the affected infants.
He also noted that this modern technology will save both time and money for parents while ensuring quicker medical intervention for newborns suffering from jaundice.
