Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, while speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, questioned the fairness of targeting the Prime Minister on the establishment’s advice.
He asked whether both sides of justice are equal, and the judiciary is recognized by its conduct and decisions. Khawaja Asif said that the Supreme Court should keep itself safe from the political quagmire that politics has created. He added that the role of the judiciary will be historic, and unfortunately, all institutions are facing allegations of being influenced.
Khawaja Asif further stated that the Supreme Court should keep itself protected from the political turmoil, and those who have come by force should be asked about terrorism. He criticized the establishment for targeting the Prime Minister on their instructions, and questioned whether it is fair. Khawaja Asif quoted the Constitution, which says that both sides should be equal, and asked whether former Chief Justices Saqib Nisar and Khosa kept both sides equal? He also questioned how political parties can claim unity within the Supreme Court when there is no manifestation of unity inside.
Khawaja Asif further said that politics should be left to politicians, and institutions that have the balance of power should not allow politics to enter. Politics should not be involved in such institutions whose work is justice. He also mentioned that he is unaware of any negotiations, but the committee does not have an official status.
