Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has expressed deep concern over the presence of terrorist organizations operating from Afghan soil, stating that the use of Afghanistan’s territory for terrorism poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council, he said that Afghan territory is being exploited for terrorist activities, directly affecting Pakistan’s security and undermining stability across the wider region. He noted that in recent terrorist attacks, 80 innocent Pakistanis lost their lives, and these operations were planned from within Afghanistan. According to him, the elements involved have consistently remained engaged in cross-border terrorism against Pakistan.
Asim Iftikhar emphasized that Pakistan has repeatedly raised this issue at international forums and urged the global community to recognize the gravity of the situation, as the continued use of Afghan soil for terrorism has serious implications for regional and international security.
He called upon the Security Council to ensure that the Taliban authorities prevent Afghan territory from being used against Pakistan or any other country and fulfill their international obligations in this regard.
The Pakistani envoy also highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and expressed concern over violations of women’s rights, urging the international community to take effective and coordinated measures to support the Afghan people and protect fundamental human rights.
