The Counter Terrorism Department conducted a raid on a house in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town area, during which an intense exchange of fire took place between the terrorists present inside and police personnel, leading to a tense situation.
According to CTD officials, four terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire, reportedly due to firing by their own accomplices. A Kalashnikov and hand grenades were recovered from the scene. The deceased terrorists have been identified as Jaleel, Niaz, and Hamdan, while the identification of the fourth individual is being completed.
Authorities stated that two CTD personnel were also injured during the operation and were immediately provided medical assistance. Some accomplices managed to flee the scene, and a blockade has been set up in the surrounding area to ensure their arrest, while the scope of the search operation has been expanded.
CTD officials said that during the search, a significant quantity of explosive material was recovered from the house, which was handed over to the Bomb Disposal Squad. The squad safely defused the explosive material on site to eliminate any potential threat.
According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, initial information suggested that improvised explosive devices were being prepared in drums inside the house. Detonators, detonating wires, and various circuits used in the preparation of explosive devices were also recovered.
DIG CTD Azfar Mahesar, while speaking to the media, said that interrogation of terrorists arrested last month with explosive material was ongoing, and the raid in Shah Latif Town was carried out based on their identification.
He stated that during the raid, the suspects inside the house opened fire, resulting in injuries to the arrested terrorists as well. In the exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed inside the house, while three injured terrorists died before reaching the hospital.
DIG Azfar further stated that in addition to explosive material, five hand grenades and one SMG were also recovered from the house, and further investigation is underway.
