Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has stated that unresolved political disputes are at the root of the global crises facing the world today, warning that such conflicts are turning the situation into a powder keg and posing serious threats to global peace.
Addressing a special event organized by the United Nations under the theme “Sustainable Development: The Path to Global Peace and Prosperity,” the Prime Minister said that diplomacy, dialogue, and engagement remain the only effective means to prevent conflicts and resolve disputes. He emphasized that sustainable development must be rooted in justice and fairness, without which lasting global peace will remain an unattainable dream.
The prime minister expressed regret that one of Pakistan’s neighboring countries had threatened to use the Indus River water-sharing system as a weapon, even though it serves as a lifeline for nearly 240 million people in Pakistan. He noted that such actions could destabilize the region and require serious attention from the international community.
He stressed the need to make the United Nations stronger, better resourced, and reformed so that it can continue to function as a central pillar of global cooperation, particularly at a time when its role has become more critical than ever.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended a signing ceremony of cooperation agreements between Pakistan and various United Nations agencies, aimed at further strengthening mutual partnership and collaboration.
