Karachi: The DIG Traffic has submitted a written response in the Sindh High Court regarding the implementation of the e-challan system in the city, stating that the system was introduced after consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
During the hearing of petitions filed against the e-challan system, a detailed reply was presented before the court explaining the legal framework and method of implementation.
The court was informed that Phase One of the e-challan system has been implemented only on roads with complete infrastructure, while under-construction roads have not been included in the system to avoid inconvenience to citizens and to ensure gradual and effective implementation.
The DIG Traffic further stated that a 50 per cent discount is being offered if the challan is paid within 14 days. He clarified that amendments in fines were made by the Sindh government and that the traffic police had no role in determining the revised penalties.
In the reply submitted to the Sindh High Court, it was stated that the e-challan system operates within a transparent and legal framework, and any citizen having objections regarding a challan may approach the relevant traffic courts for redressal.
The court adjourned further hearing of the petitions against the e-challan system until March 12.
