Washington: The United States has approved a potential $5 billion sale of advanced munitions to Saudi Arabia, along with separate defence deals involving Oman and Iraq.
According to the US State Department, the proposed Saudi deal covers $5 billion worth of Joint Direct Attack Munition-Extended Range systems, with Boeing serving as the principal contractor.
The State Department also approved a separate $750 million sale of AGT-1500 engines to Saudi Arabia. The engines are used in battle tanks, with Honeywell set to serve as the principal contractor.
The State Department said the proposed sales would improve Saudi Arabia’s ability to meet current and future threats while strengthening its readiness, operational capabilities and defence cooperation.
The United States also approved two additional defence deals for Oman and Iraq.
Oman received approval for a potential $188 million agreement covering maintenance and support services for its F-16 aircraft.
Iraq was also approved for a potential $150 million sale of Bell 412EPX helicopters.
