In Karachi, the epidemic of conjunctivitis increased abnormally, dozens of cases are reported daily.According to Pak Alerts, public and private hospitals of the city have been reporting daily cases of conjunctivitis since last month.
Jinnah Hospital has 50 IOPDs per day, out of which 25 cases are reported of red eye, including children and women.
According to Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Muhammad Mueezuddin, the increase in cases is due to the transfer of eye fluid from the affected person to another person.
He explained that a red-eye infection lasts for 8 to 10 days, causing the affected person’s eyes to turn red with a presence of moisture, accompanied by pain. The affected individual’s towel, soap, and other items of use should be kept separately.
He advised that the affected person can clean the eye with recommended eye drops and clean tissues. Rinsing the affected eye with cold water provides relief, and precautions and hygiene are necessary to prevent the spread of red-eye infection.
