China has announced that President Xi Jinping will not participate in the G20 meeting. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that Prime Minister Li Chiang will lead the Chinese delegation in the summit held in New Delhi.
According to the report of the Guardian, after the announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China that the Chinese delegation in India will be led by the country’s Prime Minister Li Chiang,This is indicated by Xi Jinping’s refusal to attend the G20 meeting.
On the other hand, Reuters suggests that the announcement of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Premier leading the Chinese delegation implies that President Xi Jinping might skip the G20 Summit, potentially disregarding the possibility of a meeting with US President Joe Biden.
It should be noted that Chinese Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mao Ning did not disagree with the journalists’ claim in the press briefing that Xi Jinping will not attend the summit. But it is believed that it is very unlikely that the President and Prime Minister of China will be out of the country at the same time.
The G20 Summit, scheduled to take place from September 9th to 10th, had been seen as a potential meeting ground for the leaders of China and the United States.
It’s worth noting that President Joe Biden had expressed hope last week that he expected President Xi Jinping to participate in the leadership conference in Delhi. However, following information suggesting skepticism about Xi Jinping’s attendance at the summit, American officials had downplayed the possibilities of a meeting between both leaders.
Analysts believe that Xi Jinping’s absence could be a setback for India, the host of the G20 summit.
