According to Al Jazeera, in the event of the president’s sudden death, the Iranian constitution states that the first vice president, currently Mohammad Mukhbar, will assume the presidency with the Supreme Leader’s approval.
According to the Iranian constitution, presidential elections will be held within 50 days after the death of the president.
According to Article 131 of the Constitution of Iran, if a President is declared ineligible or dies during his term of office, the Vice President takes over after confirmation of all the circumstances by the Supreme Leader.
A council consisting of the vice president, the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary has to elect a new president within 50 days.
Ibrahim Raisi appointed Mohammad Mukhbar as his first vice president in August 2021, shortly after assuming power.
