The International Cricket Council (ICC) has sought written reasons from India for not coming to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025.
According to ICC rules, the Indian board has to give concrete reasons for not going to Pakistan. ICC will have to take a final decision on India after examining the reasons.
According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board had asked the ICC for a written copy of the Indian letter, while the Indian Cricket Board had verbally informed the ICC about not going to Pakistan. Now the ICC has asked the Indian Cricket Board to give written reasons, Pakistan can ask for concrete evidence in their favor after receiving the written reasons.
Sources say that according to the rules, the Indian board has to give concrete reasons for not going to Pakistan. The ICC has to review the reasons and make the final decision about India. If the reasons for not going to Pakistan are not justified, the Indian team will be asked to come. If India does not agree, the 9th team can be included in the Champions Trophy.
Sources say that due to India’s non-participation, the ICC will lose 500 million dollars. The ICC has to earn from the broadcast rights of the trophy, advertisements, and sponsorship. The loss of the Indian board is estimated to be 10 million dollars due to the absence of Pakistan-India matches.
The hybrid model is not acceptable in any case, PCB wrote to ICC.
It should be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on November 12 regarding India’s refusal to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. PCB had written to the ICC with the government directive in mind.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a firm stand and decided not to accept any hybrid model. The government has informed the ICC of this position.
In the letter written by PCB, asking for concrete reasons, it was written that if other teams can come to Pakistan, then what is the problem of India? Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, hybrid model is not accepted.
The letter stated that Pakistan could win the Champions Trophy even without India; any other team could be called instead of India. However, Sri Lanka or the West Indies may be invited to participate in the event.
It should be noted that the federal government had made it clear to the cricket board that a Pakistan-India confrontation is not possible without Pakistan, the profit is not only because of India but because of the presence of Pakistan.
