Washington: The United States has expressed serious concern over the sentencing of civilians by military courts in the May 9 cases.
The U.S. State Department, expressing deep concern over the proceedings of Pakistan’s military courts, stated in a statement that Washington has reservations regarding the sentencing actions carried out by military tribunals against civilians involved in the May 9 protests.
According to a foreign news agency, the U.S. government has termed these sentences as being against the principles of a fair trial.
It is worth noting that earlier, the European Union also expressed strong concern over this decision, stating that the judgments made by military courts against civilians in Pakistan violate international agreements.
The European Union, in its statement, urged Pakistan to protect the rights of its citizens and ensure fair trials for them.
The British Foreign Office also criticized the trial of civilian cases in military courts, stating in a statement that there is a lack of transparency and independent scrutiny in military courts, raising questions about the justice process.
The United Kingdom holds the view that such actions violate fundamental principles of justice and infringe upon public rights.
