Pakistan Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that out of the 26 individuals martyred in the Jafar Express attack, 18 belonged to the Army and Frontier Corps (FC).
During a briefing on the attack and the rescue operation, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) stated that security forces eliminated a total of 33 terrorists in the operation. The terrorists killed 26 people, while security forces successfully rescued 354 hostages, including 37 injured individuals. He emphasized that no hostages were killed during the operation.
DG ISPR further clarified that the terrorists did not abduct any passengers. The hostages were held in the same area in three separate groups. One group was released by the terrorists on the night of March 11. The second group managed to escape on the morning of March 12 when the Army and FC launched an operation. The third group was rescued during a clearance operation on the evening of March 12.
According to DG ISPR, when the terrorists forced passengers off the train, they left behind a small group of armed men while the larger group retreated.
