Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has revealed the reason behind quitting his signature wicket celebration style.
Abrar’s head-shaking celebration after taking a wicket had gained popularity, though it also received criticism from some quarters.
Speaking to a private TV channel in Lahore, Abrar said he started the celebration during the previous edition of the PSL and also used it in South Africa without any issues. However, during the Champions Trophy match against India, it caused more controversy. “I intended to continue with my style, but perhaps some people didn’t like it,” he said.
Abrar added that he doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, which is why he decided to stop. “I also have to bowl with the new ball and in death and middle overs, so I focused on improving my skills, which is paying off.”
He praised the Quetta Gladiators team, saying one win can build momentum. “Vivian Richards is a legend; his words mean a lot to us and keep us motivated.”
He also mentioned that Mark Chapman understands the local conditions well and has been scoring consistently. “We hope he continues to perform the same way.”
Abrar expressed his determination to become a top bowler in all three formats, improve his fitness, and work on his batting over the next six months.
