In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Salman Ali Agha said that when a player participates in all three formats, sometimes performance in one format gets affected. He mentioned that his first six or seven T20 International matches were not very good, which is common, as T20 cricket demands quick decision-making due to limited time.
Talking about the Bangladesh tour and future tours, Salman Agha said he has some plans in mind and will share them with selectors and coaches during meetings. He added that the PSL is an important tournament where players graduate to the national team, and he is observing which players are performing well. If any meeting takes place, he will present his suggestions regarding which players should be given opportunities.
The national T20 team captain emphasized the importance of bringing depth into one’s game at the international level. He mentioned working on his performance, understanding modern cricket better, and adding new shots to his batting. He stated that he does not have any specific record, runs, or average targets; he simply wishes that when he retires, the team is in such a good condition that future players do not face difficulties.
He praised Shadab Khan’s leadership of Islamabad United over the past five to six years, stating that Shadab has an impressive record and makes effective decisions under pressure, ranking among the best captains in the PSL.
Salman Ali Agha shared that he and Babar Azam used to play school-level cricket together, with Babar representing Muslim Model and him representing Central Model. Their friendship started there and continued through the Under-16 and Under-19 levels. He also mentioned his friendships with Shadab Khan, Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafique, and Saim Ayub, saying they often eat together.
The all-rounder said he does not clearly remember when he developed a passion for cricket, but he has loved the game since childhood, playing in the streets and fields. Although no one in his family played cricket, his father used to tell him about legendary players like Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan and was very fond of watching matches.
Salman Ali Agha expressed his wish for the Pakistan Super League final to be held between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. He said that while all teams are good, his connection with Lahore, having represented them, makes him hope for a final with the Lahore Qalandars.
