China has renamed the Indian-administered Arunachal Pradesh “Zangnan,” declaring it part of its territory.
In a strong statement, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that the region historically, geographically, and administratively belongs to China. The ministry further stated that renaming these places with Chinese names is internal and falls under China’s sovereign administrative jurisdiction.
A government statement issued from Beijing emphasized that this move aims to highlight the historical and cultural identity of the region under China’s governance.
It is worth mentioning that India considers Arunachal Pradesh as one of its states, while China views it as part of southern Tibet. The two countries have long-standing tensions over the issue.
According to defense analysts, this bold diplomatic step by China comes as a major setback for the Modi administration, especially following India’s recent aggression against Pakistan.
