The Sikh community worldwide is in deep outrage following an alleged Indian drone attack on the sacred site of Nankana Sahib. A Switzerland-based Sikh organization, “MAAR,” has formally filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court, labeling the incident as a grave assault on religious freedom.
According to the organization, India launched a drone strike on Nankana Sahib during the night between April 7 and 8. However, Pakistan’s military successfully intercepted and thwarted the attack in time. MAAR stated that the incident reflects India’s dangerous trend of escalating border tensions while also targeting sacred sites of minorities.
The group has demanded an impartial investigation by the international court into this alleged aggression and urged that India be held accountable for violating international laws. The organization emphasized that attacks on places of worship are a blatant breach of human rights and global principles, which should not be tolerated in any civilized society.
Citing history, the organization recalled India’s bombing of Kartarpur Sahib during the 1971 war, terming it a painful reminder of continued assaults on the Sikh community’s religious sentiments.
In its statement, MAAR declared that India is not only endangering peace in South Asia but is also targeting the religious freedom and cultural identity of Sikhs. It appealed to the global community to break its silence and take a stand against India’s aggressive actions.
The Sikh organization stressed that safeguarding religious and cultural sites is imperative, especially at a time when political and military tensions are on the rise in the region. The Sikh community will not tolerate any attack on its sacred sites and will continue to raise its voice against such injustices on every platform.
