Alongside rising inflation, fertilizer prices in the country have seen a significant surge, further worsening the situation for farmers. According to documented data, the prices of various types of fertilizers have noticeably increased within just one week.
The price of DAP fertilizer rose by Rs. 36 per bag within a week, bringing the average price to Rs. 12,937 per bag. According to the report, Quetta recorded the highest price for DAP fertilizer at Rs. 13,400 per bag, while in Faisalabad, it is being sold at Rs. 13,150. Over the past year, the overall increase in DAP’s price has reached Rs. 1,578.
During the same period, the price of Potassium Sulphate fertilizer rose by Rs. 95 in just one week, raising its average price to Rs. 12,145 per bag. In Faisalabad, it is being sold at the highest price of Rs. 13,800 per bag.
Nitrophosphate fertilizer has also been affected by inflation, with its price rising by Rs. 12 per bag, now reaching Rs. 8,075. Additionally, the price of balanced fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium has gone up by Rs. 6, with the current per bag price reaching Rs. 8,990.
Agricultural circles have termed this increase alarming in the context of soaring farming costs and potential impacts on crop yields. The continuous price hike is putting immense pressure on small-scale farmers, which demands urgent attention from the government.
