Severe rains over the past 24 hours have caused widespread destruction across various regions of Punjab, leading to at least 30 deaths and numerous injuries due to multiple incidents.
Several roof collapse incidents occurred in cities, including Lahore. In Lahore alone, 12 people lost their lives due to collapsing roofs during heavy rain, while six others were rushed to the hospital with injuries. In Mission Colony, Raiwind, three family members, including the head of the household, died in a roof collapse. In Kot Jamalpura, one person was killed and three others were injured. In Thokar Niaz Baig, five members of the same family—including two children—lost their lives, while a father and daughter were injured. In Mominpura, another collapse resulted in the deaths of three people.
According to rescue officials, the roofs were constructed using weak materials like bamboo, mud, straw, and wood, which could not withstand the pressure of continuous rainfall.
Beyond Lahore, other cities in Punjab also witnessed deadly incidents. In Faisalabad, six people died due to roof collapses, while three deaths each were reported in Pakpattan and Okara, two in Sheikhupura, and a combined total of three in Nankana Sahib and Farooqabad. In Okara, a commercial building on MA Jinnah Road collapsed, though no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, in Rajanpur, heavy rain over the Koh-e-Sulaiman range caused flash flooding in streams, cutting off land routes to several villages. Torrential rains are also ongoing in northeastern Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Jhelum Valley, and Leepa Valley.
Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, warned that more heavy rains are expected today in several Punjab regions. Downpours are likely in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Jhelum, while there is also a risk of landslides in Murree’s mountainous areas.
According to PDMA reports, warnings have been issued for flash floods, heavy rain, and windstorms in low-lying areas, and relevant departments have been directed to take emergency measures.
