Given the potential flood situation caused by heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an emergency meeting to assess the situation and ensure timely action.
According to reports, continuous heavy rainfall since last night in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has dangerously raised the water level of Nullah Lai, triggering alarm alerts. The district administration has instructed residents of low-lying areas to evacuate immediately to safer locations.
The Meteorological Department reports that 230mm of rain has been recorded so far in various areas of the twin cities, submerging several low-lying regions and causing severe hardship for residents.
Sources revealed that the Prime Minister has sought an immediate report from the Chief Commissioner of Rawalpindi and the MD of WASA to ensure swift relief and drainage operations in the affected areas. The emergency meeting will thoroughly review the damages caused by the rain and the precautionary measures being taken.
Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today to receive firsthand updates on the countrywide rainfall, river flooding, and potential flood threats.
NDMA officials will brief the Prime Minister not only on the current situation but also on ongoing relief efforts, safety measures, and coordinated strategies with various institutions.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also receive forecasts and early warning updates through satellite imagery from the Command and Control Center. This visit is expected to play a critical role in ensuring immediate, coordinated, and effective relief operations in affected regions.
