The Sindh High Court has declined the request for an urgent hearing on a petition filed against the replacement of motorcycle number plates, ordering that the case be presented after the judicial holidays.
An initial hearing was held on Tuesday, during which the court refrained from immediate action.
The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Mushtaq Tanoli, argued that the matter is of urgent public concern, as thousands of motorcyclists are being fined daily. He stated that the public is under immense stress due to this decision, and immediate judicial intervention is necessary.
Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Sangi responded to the argument, remarking, “This is a matter of a few thousand rupees in fines, and you’ve brought it during court holidays, while several other important cases involving fundamental rights are pending.”
The court declared the urgent hearing request inadmissible and dismissed it, instructing that the matter be brought up again after the court vacations.
It is worth noting that social activist Faizan Hussain had challenged the new motorcycle number plate policy in the Sindh High Court, terming it an unnecessary burden on citizens.
